this article, in today's ny times, is the acknowledgement that everyone has been asking for - that the administration made 'deals' with health care stakeholders.
can anyone still doubt the assertion that the administration lured the other stakeholders (including the doctors) with promises as well - since they were part of the original 'coalition' (along with pharma) of health care stakeholders when it was announced in the spring?
a trustee has reminded society members that we are in the early innings of a planned nine inning game. i say to physicians, lets gather some consensus on what's important - especially if this thing goes into extra innings
Anyone who thinks they made a "deal" with politicians is sadly mistaken. They sold their souls and now have no standing amongst their constituents or the public in general. Look what happened to the bankers who grovelled before the Feds and begged for money. They received insults, interference in the running of their businesses, pay cuts and bonus restrictions and lost control of their companies. Let's hope physicians don't allow that to happen to the honorable profession of medicine.. It is not just about the money.

i must disagree about 'mistaken'. i would point out that the bankers are still flush - just look at goldman!
ReplyDeleteit's always about the money, always! - just stick around long enough

I'd feel better about dealing with the administration if they wouldn't react in such a paranoid fashion, eg Pelosi's ill-advised "swastikas" comment or flag@whitehouse.gov. As Dirksen said,“When we feel the heat, we see the light”
ReplyDeletei can't disagree - but your comments remind me of when then secretary of state alexander haig (in the moments following president reagan's assassination attempt)tried to reassure the country with his assertion that he was 'in charge' apparently ignoring the order of presidential succession.
ReplyDeletei guess all kinds of politicians are subject to ill-advised musings
Well my turn to disagree ... Swastikas comments jump the shark on irresponsibility. BTW, has anyone seen a copy of the Baucus bill? While HR 3200 is freely available, Baucus is veiled in secrecy.
ReplyDeleteI love this from Gail Collins (8.8.09):
ReplyDelete'Baucus has set up a special bipartisan negotiating committee on health care with his pal Chuck Grassley, the Iowa Republican.
The senators on this special committee hail from Montana, North Dakota, New Mexico, Iowa, Maine and Wyoming. This was quite a coup on Baucus’s part, since you have to work really hard to put together six states that represent only 2.77 percent of the population.'
